Biography

Jingwei Wu is an Associate Professor and Assistant Director of Biostatistics Outreach in the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at Temple University’s Barnett College of Public Health, where he also serves as a primary research faculty member of the Biostatistics Core Center. He is an affiliate faculty member of Temple University’s Center for Obesity Research and Education (CORE). Dr. Wu teaches both introductory and advanced biostatistics core courses for graduate students and mentors numerous MS and PhD students through thesis committees and research advising. He is a selected Teaching Fellow of the Provost’s Teaching Academy at Temple University and a three-time awardee of the Textbook Affordability Project. He is also the recipient of the 2023 Emerging SAS Educator Award, and the 2025 Teaching Excellence Award for a University Educator from the ASA Philadelphia Chapter.

Dr. Wu’s research centers on developing novel statistical and computational methods to address complex biomedical problems. His methodological interests include medical indices development, semiparametric regression, longitudinal and survival data analysis, statistical computation, and statistical considerations in innovative clinical trial designs.

As a member of the biostatistics faculty, Dr. Wu has collaborated with investigators across Temple University and external institutions. He provides expertise in study design, sample size determination, power analysis, and advanced analytical methods. He has served as co-investigator and biostatistician on multiple federally funded grants and has contributed independently to the preparation and submission of more than 50 extramural grant applications spanning epidemiology, environmental health, social behavior science, health and rehabilitation sciences, communication sciences and disorders, obesity, kinesiology, and oncology. He has authored or co-authored more than 150 peer-reviewed scientific articles and over 140 presentations at national and international conferences, with several papers appearing in high-impact journals, such as JAMA, Annals of Internal Medicine, and Statistical Methods in Medical Research.

Dr. Wu serves on several editorial boards and scientific committees for professional organizations, and he has been a scientific reviewer for various NIH and Department of Defense study sections. He is the Section Councilor of the Applied Public Health Statistics (APHS) Section of the American Public Health Association (APHA) and a member of the Statistical Advisory Panel for the British Journal of Psychiatry (BJPsych) and Nature Medicine in Neurology & Psychiatry. He also serves as the Educational Outreach Officer (2025-26) and Secretary (2026-27) for the ASA Philadelphia Chapter.

Before joining Temple University, Dr. Wu was a primary biostatistician and statistical consultant at Indiana University School of Medicine beginning in 2001, contributing to research on hypertension, pain/depression/anxiety, sexually transmitted infections, medication compliance, health-related quality of life outcomes, cancer surveillance, and clinical trials. He also worked as a senior biostatistician for the Hoosiers Oncology Group, supporting the evaluation of novel therapeutics and contributing to the development of innovative approaches in cancer treatment through clinical research.
